HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!

Yes, I am late with my happy wishes, and many of you have started the New Year without me, but I have only just found the cable to connect this PC to the internet. This is because I moved on the 19th December, in betwixt the rain and damnation. Christmas didn't happen. I ignored it. I bought only two presents. I didn't overeat, but I enjoyed the Christmas telly. Wonderful, I might ignore Christmas more often. Other joyous news is that one month on, as well as finding the connection cable I also found the kitchen scissors, and yesterday, I bought a cutlery organiser - finally, everything is right with the world. My spatula is no longer mingling with the knives and forks; my cookie cutters are no longer having a meaningful relationship with the bread knife and my potato peeler is no longer carrying on beneath the tea spoons; they now know their place.
After four years of renting I can now unpack stuff that has been stored away and I can now hammer nails into the walls and hang pictures. It is thrilling. AND, instead of buying a rickety old shed masquerading as a cutesy cottage in the overpopulated South East, I have finally bought a proper house in the underpopulated South West. There are windows that open properly, there is plumbing that works, there is double glazing!!!! There is enough space to swing all manner of things.... and there is this glorious floor in the hallway.... It may be grubby at the minute, but it is my floor, not a floor belonging to a landlord, and the only admonishments I have to worry about are the ones from Mr Files.

PLUS... I have almost cut my living costs in half by not having to pay bonkers rent. I am looking forward to decorating in the Spring [if we have one this year], although I like the decor here, it does need freshening up... and, well, it never feels quite like home until there have been a few Dulux mishaps..... and did I mention the far reaching views to the south featuring the Dartmoor tors and a few cows? I have tried to take a picture of the view but the sun is too bright this morning. I will try another day.

So far I like it here.

  3. I thought that, perhaps, you were wishing us a happy 2015 to insure you're not late.

Congrats on your new abode! I love that floor. A close-up would make a good screen saver for your phone. I'm expecting photos of Dartmoor tors, in light of not having any idea what they are. How nice that the sun it TOO BRIGHT.

What holiday telly were you watching, exactly? I'm actually interested in what goes on over there during the holidays. From a cultural standpoint.

    1. Mr Pain - I can't believe that I actually live in a south facing sunny house instead of a cave with slits for windows. On a nice day it is uplifting.
I am a cultural delinquent, I soaked myself in hour long episodes of soap.

  4. Hey happy days!! Welcome to your new home! Sounds wonderful and you sound very perky too. Long may it last!

Our cutlery is all in one drawer together, they mingle together with whoever they want. The wooden spoon has become very attached to the melon baller.

    1. Mr Joey - Sort your cutlery now!! The thought of your wooden spoon partying with the melon baller is distressing me.

Hope the too bright sun brings you a nice warming spring.

  13. Pat, I am closer than I was in Exeter... Dartmoor is far in the distance, I'm very high up! Just south of Clovelly... and Bude is 25 minutes to the west. Like it over here.

  16. Happy New Year to you and your new house! A southern exposure, windows with a view and that smashing tile floor... what more could a girl ask for??? I am so happy for you!

I envy you your organized utensils. My current, rather elderly kitchen has such small drawers that even with an organizer, my utensils are all ajumble. The cutlery has its own space, with a lovely chrome wire basketweave organizer, so there is no fraternizing, but other utensils? Close your eyes when you open THAT drawer!

I am hoping to have a new kitchen by the end of the year, but am still (very slowly) completing my bedroom reno. The flooring is going in today. Cross your fingers that there are no delays, as my bed will be on end in the hallway.

I once had a boyfriend who would stack his cutlery within the cutlery organiser. I think he was slightly OCD!

  20. Congratulations on your move! I am looking forward (?) to packing up my house and all my things and moving to another city, too, provided this job works out. Oh, just typing about it makes me tense up. No, I am really not looking forward to it. Oh, I need to change the subject. Too tense! Too tense!!!

  27. Bien le bonjour, très chère. I'm just trying to catch up with everyone on bloggrland. I've been hibernating since Christmas (as I usually do) but there's enough sunlight now to get me out of my lair... for a few hours. Winter is far from over.

So happy to see that the moving went well and you are thrilled with your new abode. I'm still in the look out for a place in the countryside. I cross my fingers that this is going to be our year.

    Take care.

    2. I don't know if you are near the flooding but I just watched a report on our PBS news report (I don't know if you follow the difference between commercial channels and our Public network). The PBS report is more like your BBC (which government funded right?). Anyway they did a report on the massive flooding and even interview your PM. Leave it to me to go off on a tangent about TV news setups when all you did was mention bad weather.
all the best - stay dry

  30. Happy New Year and Congratulations on your new home!

Your floors look fantastic! I love mosaics! Have you seen any of those famous Dartmoor ponies yet? Any pixies? I googled Dartmoor tors and they look amazing!

I hope you are staying dry and perhaps using your rainy days to redecorate your home the way you want it. Here's wishing you more sunshine! Cheers!
